Mr. Villasano's Biography

                 Background

Greetings Quincy Jones Family. My name is Edgar Villasano. I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles to hard-working immigrant parents.  My family originates from Ocotlán, Jalisco, Mexico. I am married to a wonderful and supportive wife with two children, a son and a daughter. 

                 Education

I am a product of L.A.U.S.D. I attended 28th Street Elementary, 32nd Street Magnet, John Adams Jr. High, and Los Angeles High School. I did one year of schooling in Mexico. My family still resides in this community. I was the first member of my family to graduate from a University. I earned my Bachelor‘s Degree in 1999, my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential in 2001, and my Master’s Degree in Multicultural Education in 2002 from California State University, Dominguez Hills. I also have a Supplemental Authorization to teach middle school English and Math.

Experience 

I have over 25 years of teaching experience. I have been at Quincy Jones Elementary School since its inauguration in 2010. I taught at my alma mater, 28th Street Elementary School, for 11 years. Before teaching, I worked for 4 years as a Teacher’s Assistant and Library Aide at 28th Street and Wadsworth Elementary. I have worked in second grade for the majority of those years, having taught 1st and 3rd grade as well. Now, as an Intervention Teacher, I work with students in Kinder through 5th grade.

Community Service

In addition to being a parent of two now college students, I believe that investing our time in our children is the greatest thing one can do as a parent. That is why I volunteer with organizations that enrich children’s lives. I volunteered for AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization) as a coach for ten years, a board member, and a referee. As my kids outgrew the youth soccer program, I continued to volunteer as a referee and have loved every minute of it. I also volunteered as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor for the Scouts of America with my son’s troop when he was a teenager. I enjoyed all the camping and high adventure activities my son and I got to experience with our scout troop. Throughout my kids' middle and high school years, I was a proud member of the band and color guard parent booster and volunteered at many of their events.
